    The City of Portales is accepting applications for a Utilities Superintendent.  Under general direction from the City Manager and the Public Works Director, this position is responsible for overall functions of water and wastewater departments.  Oversees the daily operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, sewer collection system and water distribution system.  Works with the Water Utility Billing Supervisor concerning billing problems and customer complaints.  Oversees all maintenance, construction, and repair to all the aforementioned systems.  Prepares and administers department budget.  Deals with Public Works Committee and the City Council as needed.  Is an integral part of short and long range planning for the department.  Deals with consultants and state and federal regulating agencies.
    Must have a Level III water and or Level III wastewater certificate from State of New Mexico, or the ability and experience to obtain within 12 (twelve) months.  Must have three (3) years minimum experience as manager or supervisor in a related field.  High school diploma or GED is required.  A current, valid New Mexico Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record is required.
    Applicant must pass a background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed necessary.  Must also pass a post-offer pre-employment drug screen administered by a City-designated facility.
